Five people were hospitalized following a house explosion in a residential New Jersey neighborhood Friday night, according to police.
The incident happened after 9 p.m. on Banker Road in West Milford, located 20 miles outside of New York City.
“[The] scene is still active with limited information other than six patients were transported to area hospitals,” PIO/Deputy Chief Rich Poplaski told North Jersey.com.
The injured were transported to the hospital by helicopter, West Milford police said in a statement.
One person refused further medical treatment.
The cause of the explosion is unknown as officials said the investigation is ongoing.
The conditions of those injured have not been disclosed.
Poplaski said that rescue workers from the West Milford police, fire, EMS, and paramedics are still actively working the scene and for residents in the area to “avoid” Banker Road, according to the outlet.
Staggering aerial images of the scene show the home reduced to rubble as emergency personnel surrounded the area.
“House just exploded in my neighborhood shook the f—k out of the whole neighborhood like an earthquake,” resident Anthony Green posted on X, formally known as Twitter.
“Live in the neighborhood it shook the whole neighborhood the house was just bought and in the process of being remodeled,” he later claimed.
The horrifying incident comes over a month after a home in western Pennsylvania blew up, killing five people — including a 38-year-old man and his 12-year-old son.
